Active Learning Plan for Mathematics and Data Science

The Center for Mathematical Modeling and Data Science (MMDS) provides courses for undergraduate students from all majors on statistical literacy and applied mathematics as part of the Active Learning Plan for Mathematics and Data Science. The Active Learning Plan is a systematically organized program designed to help students acquire fundamental knowledge of statistics and applied mathematics as well as to develop and evolve an organic connection among problems, data, planning, modeling, simulation, analysis, conclusion, application, and prediction (at MMDS, these nine elements are collectively referred to as "PDPMSACAP") to help resolve problems that have no fixed answers.

Approved Program for Mathematics, Data Science, and AI Smart Higher Education

At Osaka University, the Approved Program for Mathematics, Data Science, and AI Smart Higher Education Program offers two educational programs: the Literacy level and the Applied Basic level. Since fiscal year (FY) 2020, the Literacy level provides the Approved Program for Mathematics, Data Science, and AI Smart Higher Education for all undergraduate students. This program adheres to the model curriculum (the "Literacy" level curriculum) formulated by the Japan Inter-University Consortium for Mathematics and Data Science Education, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). It covers the basics and applications of mathematics, data science, and AI. In FY 2021, this Program was accredited by MEXT under the Approval System for Mathematics, Data Science, and AI Smart Higher Education Programs (Literacy Level) (accreditation effective until March 31, 2026). Since FY2021, we have offered the Applied Basic level program. This program is fully compliant with the model curriculum and is scheduled to undergo the accreditation process for MEXT's Approval System for Mathematics, Data Science, and AI Smart Higher Education Programs (Applied Basic level). Students can take these Programs independently. Because the courses can be counted for credits required for graduation at their affiliated school, students can take these courses easily.
